Preliminary Considerations
Types of Knowledge

A. Empiricism--Senses
B. Rationalism--Logic
C. Intuition--Innate
D. Revelation--Scripture

Limitations of Science

A. It deals only with sense data
B. It can only disprove, not prove
C. To use the scientific method something must be both observable and repeatable

Scientific Creation Model Compared to the Evolution Model

Due to the limitations of the scientific method, neither creation nor evolution can be proven in the laboratory. The scientific method requires that a theory be repeatedly tested and observed. This cannot be done with events in history.

Since neither view can be proven using the scientific method, one may ask, "How can we determine which is the better theory?" The answer is to use a model of each system and see which model best predicts the evidence we find.

Definition of the Evolution Model

Evolutionist Sir Julian Huxley defines evolution as "a directional and essentially irreversible process which gives rise to an increase of variety and an increasingly high level of organization in its products. Our present knowledge forces us to view that the whole of reality is evolution--a single process of self-transformation."

Definition of the Creation Model

Dr. Henry Morris states that "the major categories of nature were formed by special creative and cataclysmic, purposive processes in the past which are no longer in operation today and which therefore are not accessible to empirical observation."

Basic Components

1. All things can be explained by
natural processes
2. Increase in variety
3. Increase in complexity
4. Much time is needed
5. Requires faith in time &

Basic Components

1. Initial period of creation
2. Presently there are uniform natural laws
3. There have been periods of cataclysm
